OC Minis - Under 7s

Thank you for looking at the OCs for your child’s first experience or development of their rugby skills. The Under 7 age group is open to any boy or girl who is in Year 2 of school.

It is a great way for your child to develop their skills whilst running around, being active and above all having FUN, enjoying structured non-contact games that will keep them interested and excited.

It is about creating an environment where the children start to understand the key values that rugby provides - TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE, SPORTSMANSHIP.

This is the first season when the kids start playing in competitive games against other teams.  These matches are 4-a-side games played with TAG rugby rules (the kids wear Velcro belts around their waists with tags hanging down & a “tackle” is made by an opposition player removing the tag whilst you are running with the ball in hand).  Being only 4 a-side this gives every child the opportunity to handle the ball frequently and be involved in the game all the time.  

Our philosophy is to let all the kids have as much playing time as possible - we realise that at this age players can change very quickly so we do not concentrate on the elite few but try and involve all the children in festivals during the course of the season.

This season the children also enter festivals (tournaments) and a variety of training games with other local clubs both at home and away.

Every Sunday from the first weekend of September through to end of April we start promptly at 09.30 (we suggest that you arrive soon after 09:15 to park.  The session lasts for about 1 hour. The bar is open throughout for tea / coffee / bacon butties, and of course beer / wine for the adults.
